Mozaga is a village in the middle of Lanzarote, on the edge of the La Geria wine country. Mostly locals. It makes a natural base: Famara and the coast fifteen minutes away, Arrecife the same, Timanfaya twenty, the north or south within half an hour or so.
These buildings were once the home of Margamod, the fashion atelier Marga founded. One apartment was her father's bodega. We rebuilt it slowly, by hand: volcanic stone, wood old and new. Each apartment is different, with its own light and its own history, but they share the same garden and the same care. The curtains, much of the bedding, even the beach towels and bags: made or finished here by Marga, for each apartment.
Mozagamod is adults only. It suits couples, solo travellers and friends who come for the walking and the stillness. You'll hear birds, a cockerel somewhere, a dog or two, occasionally a tractor. No pool, no TV. The island does the rest.
La Bodega de Florencio is named for Marga's father, Florencio Pérez Paz — a builder whose work included the Fundación César Manrique — and was for many years the heart of winemaking for the family. The lounge has a picture window onto the lava stone terrace.
The pergola was made by Agustín Jordán Romero, a carpintero de ribera — a traditional wooden-boat builder from Arrecife. The kitchen wall cupboard and bathroom vanity are original 1970s pieces, reclaimed from the Famara bungalows (the Norwegian-designed holiday houses on the beach at Famara) and restored here. The lamps are mostly new old stock from a much-loved traditional electrical shop on the island. When we found them, we couldn't believe our luck.

El Sol de la Mañana faces east, and is named for what that gives it: the sun arrives first here, on the terrace with the red door, where breakfast sits in full morning light while the rest of the village is still waking. From the kitchen window you look into a small courtyard where a fig tree grows out of the volcanic gravel.
The large terrace windows were salvaged from the same Famara bungalows and rebuilt into this apartment. The kitchen worktops are rescued ex-display tiles, saved from waste and edged in wood. The bedroom's wooden panelling was made by Bert Becker, a wood shaper and furniture maker from Saxony who also builds traditional circus wagons.

Cháchara is the smallest apartment at Mozagamod: 25 m², good for two people for a few days, or one person and a week of walking and rest. Set into its walls are handmade ceramic reliefs from the Escuela de Arte Pancho Lasso: impressions of lace and cloth pressed into island clay, in the building where fabric was once cut.

Marga is a designer whose work centres on reuse. Andrew grew up in a building family in England. Together we have spent the last four years rebuilding Mozagamod alongside the craftsmen. Much of the design, carpentry and painting here is ours. You will sometimes see us watering the garden, and a message reaches us any time you need something.

Mozagamod is adults only: not suitable for children and infants. Check-in from 15:00, check-out by 11:00, with keycode entry so you can arrive and leave anytime within those hours. No smoking, pets or parties; only registered guests may be on the property. Languages spoken: English, Spanish.
